The NAACP held its 50th Image Award event as hosted by Anthony Anderson last night in the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. Awards honored black members of the entertainment industry as well as community leaders.
It was a big night for the Carter family with Beyoncé taking home the event’s prestigious Entertainer of the Year Award while her husband, Jay-Z ne Shawn Carter, was bestowed with the President’s Award for “shedding light on the issues that plague the black community including systematic racism and
unjust treatment under the law.”
Beyoncé showed out in a white asymmetrical Balmain gown while Jay wore a black Louis Vuitton bespoke suit.
Additionally, Marvel Studios blockbuster Black Panther was recognized as Outstanding Motion Picture with awards also going to actors in the film including Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright. The film also landed awards for Ryan Coogler, Robert Cole, along with recognition for its soundtrack.
TV series “Blackish” was also a big winner, landing an award as Outstanding Comedy Series along with awards for it stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin and Marcus Scribner.
In Music Ella Mai took home the award for Outstanding New Artist, Outstanding Album and Outstanding Song for her eponymous album and “Boo’d Up.”
