Following up on news of a creative partnership in September 2018, Adidas and Donald Glover, who performs under the name Childish Gambino, followed up at Coachella with a give-away of the debut silhouette, distributed via Apple’s AirDrop technology.
Coachella concert-goers received an AirDrop message that read: “Donald Glover” would like to share a photo. Those who accepted the message were given the opportunity to pick up a free pair of the white canvas kicks within an hour. Distribution of the shoe was limited to Apple phone users.
The shoe is inspired by Adidas’ Gizza silhouette and features a cream colored canvas upper with distressed detailing along the base and white laces detailed with a distinct black hem that mimics the animated shoe featured in the video announcing Glover as a “brand co-creator” in September 2018.
Adidas hasn’t yet announced timing for a wider drop of the shoe.
