HBO has renewed “Insecure” for a fourth season, but everyone is going to have to wait until 2020 to find out the next chapter for Issa and friends. In an interview with Vulture, HBO programming exec Casey Bloys confirmed the series’ timing had been moved out from 2019 to 2020.
In part, the delay is very simply because the show founder/lead actress Issa Rae is very much in demand. Bloys explained, “Issa became a big movie star! We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things.”
There were other mitigating factors as well, according to Bloys, who added, “Issa, I think, partly wanted a break to come back to it fresh. And I will say, it wasn’t exactly random that we ended up [scheduling the show] in the spring, right before Emmys, so that the show should get the Emmy love that it has deserved.”
And if you thought you might be able to console yourself with a new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”….nope! It won’t be making its return until 2020 either!
