Rapper Nipsey Hussle’s life was celebrated today (April 11, 2019) at a ceremony that took place at a filled-to-capacity Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Hussle ne Ermias Joseph Asghedom was shot down and killed at the age of 33 in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31st. His alleged killer, 29-year-old Eric Holder, has plead not guilty to the charge.
The event’s most emotional moments came with touching speeches by Hussle’s mother, Angelique Smith, father, Dawit Asghedom, brother,Samiel Asghedom, sister Samantha Smith, and his long time girlfriend Lauren London, all of whom fought back tears as they recalled his impact on their lives.
Hussle’s children were also present and Kameron, London’s son’ by rapper Lil Wayne, spoke about seeing Hussle in a dream after his death.
Following the ceremony, London revealed a tattoo of Hustle on her arm. In the caption she wrote, “Real Love Never Dies When you see me, you will always see him #LoveYouHussle #TMC”
Speakers at the event included Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan and Karen Civil, who read a letter penned by Barack Obama.
The four-hour event also featured musical performances by Anthony Hamilton, Marsha Ambrosius, Jhené Aiko and Stevie Wonder.
