Philadelphia-born rapper Tierra Whack deals with tough choices in her visual for “Unemployed,” a song that’s part of a series of single drops she began releasing in February 2019.
In the Cat Stolen-directed video, the 23-year-old Whack is shown working off a sky-high pile of potatoes to cook up an array of dishes. The hitch is that some of the potatoes have eyes and are clearly distressed about being chopped and fried. The double plot twist? The individual she serves is also a potato.
Whack took the rap world by storm last year in May 2018 when she released her debut album, Whack World, in the form of an equal parts surreal/whimsical audio-visual. With “Unemployed,” Whack reveals a commitment to a surrealistic approach that relies on symbolism to underscore her messages.
