London-based hair stylist Taiba Akhuetie, better known as Keash, has been turning heads, literally, with hair looks making flex-worthy with stencils and jewels.
Her fame jumped up recently thanks to a viral image of an hombre rainbow swoosh styled for a recent collaborative project between Nike and London’s soccer-themed Fangirl organization.
While the art of intricate hair styling and adornment has long been celebrated at black American hair shows (shout out B.A.P.S!), Keash’s aesthetic brings the trend forward with high-end street vibe that provides a fresh appeal.
Keash credits her time styling hair within London’s famed Wah Nails salon with inspiring her current approach. In an interview with Wonderland, she explained, “I’m based in a nail salon and I often see the nail techs incorporating gems into their designs. One day I thought to myself, surely I can do this with hair? I had bought loads of loose gems for wig decorating workshops and decided to start testing out applying gems to hair. The first one I tried was an LV design, and once it dried, I was shocked to find it stayed in place and could actually be worn on a night out.”
