Paris-based designer Amina Muaddi has been quietly making a lot of noise since launching her eponymous line of apologetically feminine footwear silhouettes. Formerly the founding designer at Oscar Tiye (and still the lead footwear designer for Alexandre Vauthier), Jordanian-born Muaddi’s established reputation for delivering the goods has translated to a stamp of approval from none other than style heavy hitter Rihanna.
Just two seasons in, the label already has an “it” shoe, a PVC, Swarovski-detailed slingback called the Begum, the star of the label’s debut spring 2019 collection.
launched at retail in April, the $895 sandal sold out not long after its arrival. At the time of its launch, Muaddi wrote on Instagram, “I wanted to make a modern interpretation of the fairy tale shoe with the BEGUM slingback. The inspiration for my jewel buckle was an Art Deco sunburst mirror that I transformed into baguette crystals placed in a metal setting. The new version is in transparent pvc & features the signature 9,5 cm flared stiletto heel that I developed in see-through plexi.”
While the PVC Begum l is currently is nowhere to be found, Muaddi has let it be known the shoe will return. The catch is you will have to cool your heels until spring 2020.
