Rihanna Weighs In On Fenty Design Process And Impact Of Weight Fluctuation

Fenty CEO Robyn Rihanna Fenty has been spending some time in New York as part of the launch of her label at The Webster boutique in New York that opened on Thursday (June 19, 2019).

Sporting auburn box braids and a hot pink Fenty slip dress, Rihanna and Jahleel Weaver, the label’s creative director, spoke with E News about the launch of the LVMH-back label at a press preview the day before the store opened.

When asked about working with Rihanna, Weaver playfully responded, “I love and I hate it. I hate it because Just when I think I know her, she completely changes my thought.”

Rihanna also weighed in on dealing with weight fluctuation and its impact on sizing for Fenty. “I want to see it on my body and I want to see it on curvy girls with thighs and a little bit of booty and hips and now I have boobs I never had before.”

The Bajan Boss was also asked about being name the world’s wealthiest female music artist by Forbes, and responded, “Forbes is one of those funny things, it’s like you’re awarding people for being rich, it’s weird.”

When asked if her boyfriend, Hassan Jameel, has helped her with the Fenty design process. “Oh Hassan is actually an incredible designer,” she chuckled, and quickly added, “I’m just joking!”

Among the fashion insiders who had cheered his rise, there has been a growing feeling that he has wasted an opportunity to build something important.

The last straw for many of his early supporters was his couture show in July 2021. Titled “WAT U IZ,” and put on in the U.S. during Paris Couture Week, it was a tribute to the various innovations that Black people have been responsible for, often without credit. The models came down the runway decked out in a jar of peanut butter and a traffic light. A lot of it wasn’t really clothing, much less couture. Even if the professional critics and other members of the fashion press seemed hesitant to publicly express their disappointment, they whispered among each other that he’d lost the plot of his brand.
