Brooklyn’s own Alex Mali today dropped “Sweet & Sour,” a six-song EP that includes a Thutmose features. The smooth and soulful project reflects the growth of a youthful artist who’s grown from an at times shy performer to one who’s clearly comfortable in her skin and her abilities.
Against the spare beats, the true star of the EP is Mali’s soaring and swirling vocals that add depth in all the right places to lyrics addressing the ups and downs of a roller coaster love.
From start to finish, all six songs (“Start It Up” tho!) are beautiful, compelling and personable. While Mali may currently be an indie artist, this project should open up quite a few new doors.
