Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke has been making waves with his drill single “Welcome to the Party,” the low-key official New York party song of summer 2019. The song went to another level last night (July 31, 201) at a Tidal-sponsored event at SNS Bar in Manhattan where Smoke, who was celebrating his birthday, and DJ Boof debuted a remix featuring Nicki Minaj and YG.
Playing against Smoke’s low-key-menacing delivery, Minaj’s dipped into her rapid-fire bag with closing bars, “Yo Pop, who the fuck want smoke?” that had the crowd roaring.
Given the song’s status as a hometown favorite with sky-high potential (Cardi B put shine on it on Instagram Live back in June 2019), landing an official remix for Minaj is a nice feather in her cap and yet another indicator that the hate train that plagued her all last year is running out of steam.
