Until now, Bay-Area singer Kehlani hasn’t had much to stay about her beau YG (real name Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson) being busted kissing on a woman outside of a club in Los Angeles. She let her feelings flow last night (November 12, 2019) with “You Know Wassup,” a single released on Sound Cloud.
Directly referencing YG, she opened the single with an audio from YG’s Rolling Loud Oakland performance earlier this year when he told the crowd, “We’re in Oakland. It’s only right, Kehlani, come give me a kiss.”
The single was also accompanied by an image showing flowers and a Teddy Bear with Kehlani holding a note that reads, “You know Wassup,” which one has to presume came from YG though whether she received the items before or after the incident isn’t clear.
In the lyrics, Kehlani addresses YG choosing alcohol and other drugs over their relationship with the heartfelt line, “Why do I gotta beg to be chosen over your vices, over your liquor?” The lyrics are perhaps a reference to a statement from YG’s team following the incident that read, “He was drunk, got carried away and it was very regretful for putting himself in that situation and hurting #Kehlani.”
While pained by YG’s indiscretion, she makes clear she’s still in love with him when she sings, “And I’ll still tell the world I’m in love with you; ‘Cause I ain’t ashamed of shit; Got your name tatted on my wrist; Any bitch got a bone to pick, you know whose phone to hit; ‘Cause I’m still with all the actions and all that shit. You’re still my love, you’re still my heart, that’s still my date; Still wanna be Mrs. Jackson, still wanna be a co-captain.”
