In recognition of U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe‘s achievements and leadership, Nike has created a commemorative Vapor Elite cleat in a pink and gold colorway drawing inspiration from the pink hair she sported during the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament and the trophies she was awarded in recognition of her play.
Rapinoe’s first and last name are printed on the lateral side of the shoe while “Just Do It” is stamped on the medial side. The heel counter and sockliner carry the four stars Rapinoe and her American teammates sport on their national team jerseys. According to Nike press, the shoes are “one-of-a-kind boots for a one-of-a-kind player” and will not be sold at retail.
It’s been a banner year for the 34-year-old U.S. soccer player, who as co-captain helped lead her team to a second FIFA Women’s World Cup victory in July 2019. As part of her efforts she was honored with three awards: Player of the Match, Golden Boots and Golden Ball.
Ever cool under pressure, Rapinoe performed while feuding with President Donald Trump, who blasted her on Twitter in response to a video in which the 34-year-old soccer star stated she wouldn’t accept an invitation to visit the White House should the team take the championship.
