Nike has announced plans for a performance swimwear collection including a full coverage swimsuit, hijab, tunic top and leggings. Titled the Victory collection, the collection was inspired by positive response to the brand’s launch of the Pro Hijab in December 2017.
Widespread coverage of the Pro Hijab opened the door to feedback from athletes who cited a lack of performance swimwear. According to press, “Existing products were lacking in either coverage or functionality, athletes shared, leaving them feeling weighted down by baggy garments, battling drag instead of striving toward personal bests or worrying about whether their hijabs and coverings would remain in place.”
Martha Moore, Nike’s creative director added, “The more we listened, the more possibility we saw to serve female athletes in new dimensions. As we continue broadening our vision for innovation, we’re excited to inspire more women to see themselves in sport by thinking creatively and designing inclusively.”
Offerings make use of what Nike describes as a warp-knit fabric, which is lightweight, breathable and quick-drying. The garments also offer a very high ultraviolet protection for athletes who require sun protection.
Nike’s Victory swim collection will drop on February 1, 2019 on nike.com and at Nike in Santa Monica, Nike New York City House of Innovation, Nike London and Nike Dubai.
