Beyoncé surprised her fans when she appeared as an opener for Kobe Bryant‘s memorial event, held Monday (February 24, 2020) in the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The singer performed two songs, “XO” and “Halo.”
She opened the performance by stating, “I’m here because I love Kobe and this is one of his favorite songs.” Wearing a gold satin suit and backed by a live band and choir, she asked the crowd to sing “all together to hear the love.”
In a show of consideration for the circumstances of his death, Beyoncé changed the song’s “crashing into you” lyrics to “laughing into you.”
