Paris-based designer Jean-Paul Gaultier this week announced a new plan for presenting the label’s haute couture collection, which entails partnering with a new designer each year.
On Instagram, Gaultier wrote, “I have the pleasure to announce the new concept for my Haute Couture. Each season, I will invite a designer to interpret the codes of the House.” The 67-year-old Gautlier added he had selected Sacai designer Chitose Abe as his debut design partner.
While Gaultier once also designed a ready-to-wear collection for men and women, following his spring 2015 show he announced that he was closing down ready to wear to focus on haute couture. Prior to his 2020 presentation, he let it be known he was retiring from designing haute couture as well.
Japanese designer Abe founded Sacai in 1999 and presents her seasonal collections during Paris Fashion Week. The well-regarded designer is not new to collaborating and has partnered with prestigious brands including The North Face, Nike and Apple, among others.
