Louis Vuitton menswear designer Virgil Abloh has revealed his collaborative collection with Human Made designer with Nigo, a pre-fall 2020 capsule first announced in December 2019.
Titled “LV², ffferings range from natty, slim cut suits detailed with an over-sized version of LV’s famed Damier check to cozier denim pieces highlighting Nigo’s talent for creating pieces with a handcrafted feel.
The chance to work with Nigo (real name Tomoaki Nagao) in such a big way was a real treat for Abloh, who first met him 15 years ago in Japan when he was still running A Bathing Ape, a brand he founded but is no longer associated with.
Commenting on the effort in an interview with Vogue, Abloh explained, “He’s among the first real mentors I had in fashion. Since my trajectory was different, had I been a quote, unquote traditional designer, I might’ve gone to New York and apprenticed under Donna Karan. But since streetwear is a new genre of fashion design, those earliest mentors, the Yves Saint Laurent or Balenciaga of streetwear, it’s Nigo, it’s James Jebbia, who founded Supreme. They took what was organically happening within culture, skate and street brands, and they made hard-core brands from that.”
As a pre-fall 2020 collection, you can anticipate Louis Vuitton and Nigo’s “LV²” capsule to launch in June or July at Louis Vuitton stores globally.
