Sad news. It’s looking like the rescheduled Coachella will also be cancelled. Traditionally the two-weekend concert takes place in April, but was pushed out to October 2020 this year to prevent further spread of COVID-19. According to Billboard, event organizer AEG Presents/Goldenvoice plans to cancel the October event and is already in the process of asking acts to perform in 2021. This year’s planned headliners were Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean.
Goldenvoice is mulling holding a smaller Coachella event in 2021 or throwing a full festival in October 2021. Two-fifths of ticketholders have already requested refunds to this year’s festival.
As a result of disruptions to multiple live events, AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), Coachella’s parent company, is laying off 15 per cent of its staff, furloughing 100 employees and implementing pay cuts of up to 50 per cent. AEG CEO Dan Beckerman said the move will affect staff across the world.
