Label CEO Robyn Rihanna Fenty puts her weight behind the coming launch of Fenty Skin with a video describing why she was inspired to launch the category. She also got into some some of the themes driving Fenty Skin’s ingredients and packaging. She also provided some insight into her own skincare journey.
Explaining she was inspired by Fenty Beauty to create the line, the 32-year-old mogul explained, “It’s because I believe that great skin makes great makeup. So great makeup looks like great skin. So the inspiration behind Fenty Skin was just creating that foundation.”
The three items that will make their debut on July 31, 2020, are Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All ($25), Fat Water Pore-Refining toner serum ($28) and Hydra Vizor Invisible moisturizer with SPF 30 ($35).
One of the driving forces behind the brand is placing an emphasis on protecting the environment. In the case of the moisturizer, it makes use of an SPF whose ingredients aren’t harmful to ocean life. Fenty Skin has also minimized packaging by eliminating boxes and making use of recycled materials whenever possible. Some of the products can also be refilled.
While the brand hasn’t released a detailed list of ingredients, Rihanna highlighted some items in the moisturizer reflecting her Bajan roots including oil extracts from four different fruits: Barbados cherry, quince, Kalahari melon and fig along with skincare staples, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.
One of the most controversial aspects of the launch was the decision to include fragrance in all three products. As to why, Rihanna explained, “It’s a crucial part of the experience,” she said and added, “I want you to always feel triggered and have an emotional connected to that experience.
Perhaps understanding the decision would receive push back, she further argued, “It’s tailor made for every product. Every product is not going to be the same but the thread line and the through line for Fenty Skin is that the fragrance is always warm and clean. It’s never perfume-y because that’s no bueno when it comes to skin care.”
“We never use more than one percent of a synthetic fragrance and if we do, we don’t hide it. You will always know about it. We’re a clean brand. We’re a very honest brand and we’re a very upfront brand and we try to give you the best of everything.”
On her own skin, Rihanna stated on Instagram, “I’m a woman of color and I have a lot of areas of sensitivity on my face so I get really picky with products and a lot of times I get scared and cautious.”
In the caption she added, “My skincare journey has been quite complex. Some parts of my face are oily, some are dry, fatigue from travel, plus I have super sensitive skin. And chile now being in my 30s!?”
The debut launch is set for July 31st on fentyskin.com and fentybeauty.com. If you submit your email on fentyskin, you will have an opportunity to order the product on Sephora‘s online store on July 28th at 9:00 PM PST.
