Beyoncé today dropped an official visual for “Brown Skin Girl,” a single featured on her album, The Lion King: The Gift, first released in July 2019. The album serves as the official soundtrack for both The Lion King and Black Is King. The song features Blue Ivy, Brooklyn-born rapper SAINt JHN and Nigerian signer/songwriter WizKid.
In press on the visual, Beyoncé explained, “It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown. We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light. It was important that we are all in this together and we’re all celebrating each other.”
An ode to the beauty of Black skin, the visual was directed by Nigerian-British director Jenn Nkiru includes and includes appearances by Kelly Rowland, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and models Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech and Aweng Chuol.
The Knowles clan is repped with appearances by Tina Knowles-Lawson, and Beyoncé’s youngest daughter, three-year-old Rumi Carter.
