Additional looks at Adidas and Sean Wotherspoon‘s “Super Earth” Superstar sneaker have emerged, a shoe the Round Two co-owner described in a recent Instagram post as “almost ready.”
The 30-year-old retailer and designer is fresh off of a collaborative drop with Asics, and he and his partners recently announced the reopening of their Round Two location in Hollywood, which was decimated by looters in late May. On the home front, Wotherspoon is expecting a second child with his girlfriend, Ashley Rowe.
In an interview with Complex in April, Wotherspoon described the Adidas shoe as “a huge step forward in sustainability. Emphasizing his Adidas bonafides he added, “I grew up playing soccer, it was actually my first love before #skateboarding. Always wore Adidas, head to toe, I LOVE Sambas, used to buy them at Modell’s and Sports Authority. Started wearing Nike when skateboarding came in to my life so it’s fun digging even further into my own memories and finding that Adidas love as well that existed.”
His declaration of undying love for Adidas is no doubt an attempt to undo some of the damage from an interview conducted when he was still working with Nike, which ended its relationship with him after a single collaboration on a well-regarded Air Max 1/97 dropped in March 2018.
In the controversial 2017 interview, Wotherspoon stated, “I don’t fuck with Adidas at all, it’s not my thing. I have absolutely no history with them, no nostalgic feeling for Adidas. I’m Nike all day.” He added, “Nike could take a shit in my mouth and I’d still wear their sneakers.”
