Electronic pop music creative Shyvonne returns with an end of summer project titled “Waves,” released alongside a self-directed, 22-minute visual mixing beach side visuals with animation.
The 14-song project is aptly name not only because of Shyvonne’s often expressed love for the beach but also as a comment on the undulating impact of COVID-19 on New York.
Using the energy and flow of water as inspiration, the music and visual reflect on all the events and emotions that have made the year and especially summer 2020 so complex.
Commenting on the effort, Shyvonne stated, “I bought a microphone and recorded from my house for the first time, and the many feelings, all the waves came together to share my journey back inside.
“This project is a reminder to be as soft and as hard as water. To swim, and not just stay afloat when life is coming at you, to surrender to the waves and let go of control. The visual is an intimate look at the waters that have continued to save me, and the Black joy shining in the darkness during a very complicated NYC summer.”
