Toronto-born Drake has provided his fanbase with an update on his upcoming sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, with a video revealing a January 2021 launch date.
Posted on his 34th birthday on Saturday (October 23, 2020), the one-minute video is titled “Certified Lover Boy.” In the video, a young boy (Lucas Davis), who presumably represents Drake, looks up at a spotlight as an instrumental plays. As leaves begin to fall on the boy, the video segues to a contemplative Drake (real name Aubrey Graham), whose hair is styled with a heart-shaped cut out along the hairline, a motif that’s become associated with the album.
The teaser then shows a montage of the cover art for Drake’s previous albums and mixtapes including “So Far Gone” (2009), Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013) and “Dark Lane Demo Tapes” (2020). Drake released the album’s debut single “Laugh Now Cry Later” on August 14th.
In addition to the music, Drake has been teasing a Certified Lover Boy merch collection made in collaboration with Nike. Official timing hasn’t been announced for the collection.
