Much to the delight of her fans who’ve long requested it, Los Angeles native Jhené Aiko has made her debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk concert. For her appearance, soul singer Aiko performed eights songs, several of which were from her third studio album, Chilombo, released in March of this year.
The 32-year-old singer opened her performance with “Lotus (Intro)” and made use of the singing bowls that underpinned the sound and vibe of Chilombo.
For her mini-concert (performed at home rather than in the studio because of COVID-19 concerns), Aiko was backed by a mask-wearing four-piece band whose members included Julian-Quán Việt Lê, keys; Bubby Lewis, bass; Garcie Sprout, harp; and Brain Warfield, who handled percussion.
