London-based Aries under the creative direction of Sofia Prantera has linked with New Balance on a capsule themed on the brand’s new 327 sneaker, a shoe marked by an over-sized N logo with a tapered toe, cushioned midsole and trail outsole.
Putting a new spin on the upper, Aries swapped out the mixed material upper with all all leather upper offered either in black or white. The shoe will be accompanied by a nylon anorak and track packs offered in black or steel grey with reflective accents.
Commenting on the collaboration, her third with New Balance, Prantera told Hypebeast, “We started looking at fashion trainers from the ‘90s and the final design became a sort of hybrid between a classic ’90s casual style and an Italian sport-fashion trainer with ‘00s reflective highlights. There are a lot of ’90s casual Italian design references in Aries and Italian design in general has been a constant source of inspiration.”
Designed by London-based Charlotte Lee, the New Balance 327 silhouette was first launched in April 2020 and while it’s a new shoe, the concept combines contemporary elements with a heritage feel rooted in ’70s-era New Balance silhouettes. Since launching New Balance has tapped STAUD, Casablanca and Madness, among others for collaborative efforts.
New Balance and Aries’ 327 capsule will launch on ariesarise.com on October 30, 2020 with a global release to follow on November 6th.
