Adidas has tapped New York-based streetwear label Noah for two versions of its classic Cheetah silhouette. Offered in either an orange and green camouflage or a yellow and black Cheetah print, the sneakers complement the brands fall 2020 collection released earlier this year.
Providing his thoughts on the effort, Noah co-founder Ryan Babenzian explained, “I think the silhouette is appealing to so many groups because of its simplicity. The Gazelles allow people to wear them in any number of ways and they take on the personality of the wearer. They are limitless.
“We thought it would be a fun challenge to try to capture the spirit of Gazelles in prints. The idea was to select prints that, like the Gazelles themselves, could defy any sort of specific definition. We felt that Camo and Cheetah did that.”
First launched in the mid ’60s, some believe the running shoe is named after Wilma Rudolph, the U.S. sprinter who won three gold medals wearing Adidas at Rome Olympics in 1960 and was affectionately referred to as “La Gazzella” Nera by Italian fans.
Adidas and Noah’s Gazelle sneakers launch on December 3, 2020 on adidas.com and noah.com.
