The blinged-out sneaker features an over-sized Swoosh, borrowed from CPFM designer Cynthia Lu‘s recent interpretation of Nike’s Blazer, plus an extra padded tongue and detachable double lace flaps. According to Nike press, “All the angles of the crystals help the shoe become something like a disco ball.”

The sneaker is accompanied by a green Just Do It dust bag and a crystal-covered smiley face hang tag.

Press on the effort reads: “If there is a connective thread in Cactus Plant Flea Market’s ongoing footwear collaborations, it is in finding ways to celebrate a human, optimistic viewpoint. Air and sunshine remain themes, with variations of CPFM’s unique DIY styling articulating the vibe each time. With the Nike Dunk, CPFM toys with literal interplay among air, sunshine and shoe through a dynamic light refraction created with Swarovski crystals.”

Lu tapped music creative Steve Lacy for campaign images as shot by Bronx-born photographer Renell Medrano.

As of now there’s no pricing for the sneaker or the hoodie, but both items will launch on November 18 exclusively on cactusplantfleamarket.com.

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

Make-up by Raisa Flowers, nails by Dawn Sterling, and photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.
