December 18, 2020. Leave a Comment

Longtime Snobette Sneaker Awards panelist Soleil Barros was born in the sign Leo and appropriately enough is known for her sunny-side up disposition, which is why she’s simply referred to as Sunshine by her besties. Born and raised in Los Angeles, you can always count on her to rep for her city.

Check out our exchange with Barros along with her top five sneaker picks for 2020 below.

Snobette: Sneaker brands are all hoping to increase sales to women. What’s one thing they could do better when it comes to appealing to a female customer?
Soleil Barros: “Collaborating with more women from an array different backgrounds would have good results, just because women naturally are trend setters as we tend to be more versatile and open to trying new looks.

“One specific thing brands could do to appeal to the female consumer would be to create products with a think-outside-the box element. How cute would it be if your exclusive sneakers came with gloves in the same material or a matching scarf in the same color? Brands should tap into how unique and different all women are and make it easy for us to style our outfits in our own way.”

Snobette: How has the pandemic changed your sneaker buying habits whether you’re buying more, less or the same?
Soleil Barros: “The pandemic hasn’t really changed my sneaker buying habits at all. I keep it simple and stick to a special pair once or twice a year.

“Though once this epidemic is under control I might have to indulge a bit more and look forward to stepping out because all the chanclas wearing….I’m tired!”

Snobette: What’s the one sneaker silhouette you’ve been wearing heavy this month?
Soleil Barros: “Reebok‘s Instapump Fury, it’s is a super sleek silhouette plus the button detail on the tongue to tighten the sneaker gets me every time.

“In January before lockdown, Distortedd released a stellar Instapump Fury and I’ve started wearing them in the past month or so. Now we’re going steady! Quarantine tip: Stop saving your favorite things, just wear them, enjoy your stuff and be grateful you’ve acquired it.”

For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runwa For fall winter 2025 KNWLS opted to forego a runway show and present their collection in a styled lookbook.

Taking inspiration from a feminine Y2K aesthetic, the collection embodies designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault’s ability to balance sexy and cool.

In an interview with Vogue, the pair shared that they are currently working on a new design director role in Europe and have several other projects in the pipeline, including another denim project, a collaboration with a jewelry brand, and a menswear capsule for an e-commerce site.

Commenting on the lookbook styling, they shared, "Obviously in the lookbooks it's styled in a quite extreme way, but if you break it down into individual pieces, we've been thinking about merchandising and the customer more than ever before," said Arsenault. "We've seen the team in the studio wearing the pieces differently too, and we've taken that into account. It's a nice challenge to say: 'Okay, we want to make a sweatshirt, but it still has this silhouette or wash or rib detail that makes it feel really Knwls."
