March 27, 2021 update: In response to social media push back, Guess’ bag licensee Signal Brands issued a statement announcing it has halted sales of the G-Logo bag, a blatant copy of Telfar’s famed Shopping Bag.
In a statement provided to Complex, Signal stated, “Signal Brands, the handbag licensee of Guess, Inc., has voluntarily halted the sale of its G-Logo totes. Some on social media have compared the totes to Telfar Global’s shopping bags. Signal Brands does not wish to create any impediments to Telfar Global’s success and, as such, has independently decided to stop selling the G-logo totes.”
We know from our ClubHouse event last night that Signal was repeatedly warned during production that making a Telfar Shopping Bag knock off would not go over well and it went ahead and made it anyway.
Telfar has been busy promoting its upcoming Bag Security drop on March 30th and hasn’t responded to Guess’ nonsense.

New York-based Telfar‘s vegan Shopping Bag has stayed trending over the past two years with every launch of the silhouette evaporating upon arrival. Building on an established base of popularity, Oprah Winfrey selected the bag for inclusion on her holiday 2021 “Favorite Things” list.
Offered in an array of sizes, colors and fabrication’s Telfar’s bag style stands out for its double strap system. It’s also marked by a large, embossed version of the Telfar log. The design is minimalist and yet immediately recognizable.
While the bag has been insanely popular, competing brands respectively have chosen not to copy the bag, until now that is.
Copying every detail down to the over-sized embossed logo, Guess has launched a bag described as an “embossed logo G-Tote.” Offered in three colors, the disrespectful Guess copy is priced at $95.
While Guess blatantly copied Telfar’s Shopping Bag, it will still be challenging to defend the design in a court of law not only because of the costs, but also because U.S. law mainly only protects distinct design elements like logos.
