California-based UGG at long last has launched a vegan shoe range. Titled Plant Power, the collection is also sustainable and carbon neutral. The collection will kick off with three silhouettes: the Fluff Sugar and Fluff Sugar platform and a canvas Neumel boot called Neumel Natural offered in both men’s and women’s sizes. All three silhouettes are offered in four different colorways.
The faux fur used on the Fluff Sugar sandals is made from TENCEL Lyocell a fiber made from wood pulp sourced from responsibly-harvested trees certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), two leading organizations promoting sustainable forest management.
Meanwhile, the sole of the sandals swaps out petroleum-based ethylene with a material sourced from sugarcane, which absorbs 1.6 pounds of CO2 for every pound of ethylene replaced.
For the Neumel Natural, the shoe is made of a blend of 45-percent hemp and 55-percent cotton combined with soles made from latex harvested from the Hevea rubber tree, which aren’t harvested from natural forests.
Priced from $110 for the Fluff Sugar sandal, $120 for Fluff Sugar Platform and $140 for Neumel Natural, all three shoes are now available on nike.com.
