After a social-media generated false alarm on the launch of YEEZY at Gap early this month, Business of Fashion is reporting the much-anticipated collection is on schedule to launch by the end of June. San Francisco-based Gap Inc. will announce its first-quarter earnings on June 27, 2021 when it will likely provide further detail on timing of Yeezy’s debut launch.
The business publication’s sourcing lines up with what Gap CEO Sonia Syngal stated when the company reported fourth-quarter earnings in early March. When asked about the timing of the Yeezy launch, she didn’t provide an exact date but narrowed narrowed launch timing to “the latter part of the first half of 2021.”
Back when West first went public with news of the Gap effort, he announced Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi as the label’s design director. Ogunlesi was spotted in a Gap Yeezy jacket in November 2020, but hasn’t mentioned the label on her social feeds in 2021.
Gap has high hopes for the YEEZY line and has estimated $150 million in sales for its first full year in 2022, according to financial documents reported on by Bloomberg. The retailer further projects Yeezy will hit a billion dollars in revenue within eight years.
