Finnish textile brand Marimekko celebrates its 70th anniversary with a first-time Adidas collab celebrating the brand’s distinctive geometric prints. Offering up a mix of lifestyle and performance apparel, swimwear, bags and footwear, the first joint collection features two legendary Marimekko prints: Annika Rimala’s Laine (translation: wave) print from 1965 and Maija Louekari’s Räsymatto (translation: rag rug) from 2009.
Reflecting both brand’s effort to reduce waste, the collection features new materials and methods to help reduce environmental impact, including PRIMEBLUE and PRIMEGREEN recycled yarns.
Commenting on the effort in press Marimekko CEO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko stated, “Since 1951, Marimekko’s purpose has centered around empowering people, and this collection brings this mission to life in a whole new, surprising but yet so natural way. Marimekko’s bold and distinct prints fit Adidas’s innovative sports apparel perfectly; this functional yet playful capsule aims to spark the joy of exploration in everyday life.”
Adidas and Marimekko’s capsule will launch on June 15, 2021 on adidas.com and marimekko.com.
