Converse and Rick Owens reveal official images for the square-toed Chuck 70 TURBODRK Low and High that the designer first revealed under the umbrella of the label’s DRKSHDW diffusion brand at his fall 2021 men’s runway show in Venice. Offered in black or white, the sneaker makes a big statement, literally, with exaggerated proportions including an extra-long tongue and an extended square toe.
Commenting on the first time effort with Owens and hinting at more to come, press from Converse reads, “The aesthetic is all about disrupting formality, embracing traditional structure and then blowing it up. Rick Owens crafts a Chuck 70 unlike any other. And it’s only the beginning for Converse x DRKSHDW.”
Playing off on the shoe’s extra dimensions, the campaign features two models with goth-inspired white pancake makeup and hair and styled in a very punky Rick Owens black leather top and pants. The campaign was photographed and styled by Fecal Matter, an artist who described the models as “non-binary aliens taking over the world!”
Prior to Converse, Owens had collaborated with Adidas from 2013-2017. The Paris-based designer is also in the midst of an ongoing collaborative partnership with Birkenstock and recently released his third collection with the German-based comfort brand.
Priced at $165 for the low and $170 for the high, Converse and Rick Owens TURBODRK sneakers are set to drop on converse.com and with select retailers at 10:00 AM EST on July 27th.
