Apple Music-owned Beats by Dre makes a splashy statement with an earbuds spot featuring Texas-born track athlete Sha’ Carri Richardson. The visual is backed by a new single by Kanye West titled “No Child Left Behind,” which will be included on his upcoming Donda album.
Richardson qualified for a spot on the U.S. track and field team for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in June, but was disqualified shortly thereafter when she tested positive for marijuana, a banned substance.
Commenting on the visual, the 21-year old Richardson wrote on Instagram, “There will be ups and downs in life, but it’s important to remember to Run Your Own Race.”
The spot was first shown at West’s Donda listening party in Las Vegas on Sunday. Individuals in attendance at the event described the video as a Nike spot, which makes sense given Richardson is sponsored by the sports giant and is shot wearing a Swoosh-adorned pair of cleats.
Donda, West’s tenth studio album, will premiere at a ticked listening event at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on July 22nd. Apple Music will stream the event live starting at 8:00 PM EST. The album will launch on all streaming platforms on July 23rd.
