Brooklyn-based artist and illustrator Aya Brown has teamed up with Stockholm-based Sneakersnstuff on an apparel capsule celebrating celebrate queer mothers and families of color. The collection includes a hooded sweatshirt, t-shirt and tote printed two of Brown’s illustrations. As part of the effort, SNS will donate $5,000 to Planned Parenthood.
Commenting on the effort Brown said, “When asked to participate in this project with SNS in support of Planned Parenthood, I naturally thought of a conventional family image between man and woman. However, personally this is not what a pregnancy and a family would look like for me. Therefore, with this opportunity I wanted to help contribute to the ongoing representation of Black lesbian women and Black queer peoples families. Let’s not continue to retain the same mainstream narratives, as we have a responsibility to account for and to expand beyond.”
SNS and Brown’s capsule will be available on July 23, 2021 at the chain’s Los Angeles, New York stores on July 23, 2021 and and globally sneakersnstuff.com
