Adidas and Pharrell Williams through his Humanrace platform have unveiled official launch details for their Sičhona sneaker, a new silhouette revealed earlier this year. Press describes the Primeknit upper shoe as “designed to capture the feeling of being connected to the earth beneath you,” a construction inspired by Williams’ long-standing relationship with members of the Dakota Tribe.
The Humanrace Sičhona features a seamless Primeknit upper and makes use of Futurenatural technology to create an anatomically-molded midsole enabling the foot to function freely by removing elements that would normally be restrictive. While Williams was spotted in a green version of the shoe in a recent interview, the inaugural version of the Humanrace Sičhona will be offered in a royal blue colorway.
Symbolizing the voices of the Indigenous American community with the “I am Dakota, We are Dakota” campaign, the name Sičhona refers to the Indigenous phrase for “connecting to the earth,” the Dakota way of saying “barefoot.”
In a press statement, Williams explained, “I chased the experience I remember feeling as a kid when I walked barefoot on grass, sand, and rocks. Feeling the texture, the temperature, the moisture, that primal sense of freedom was a north star objective with this project.”
As part of the release, Adidas and Pharrell are raising funds for a 10kW solar array training and demonstration project for the youth of Standing Rock. Pharrell showed support for the teens of Standing Rock in the past, specifically the Sioux Tribe during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests in 2016.
Priced at $225, Adidas and Pharrell’s Humanrace Sičhona will launch globally on August 27 2021, on the Confirmed App, humanrace.com and select retailers.
