Since she announced the big news back in January, CEO Robyn Rihanna Fenty has been lighting up social media with her unique approach to maternity style, which basically laughs in the face of societal norms dictating women stay demurely covered when they begin to show. Quite to the contrary, Rihanna has celebrated her pregnancy by centering a bare belly more often than not.
Confirming her bump-baring outfits are very much intentional, Rihanna told Refinery 29, “When women get pregnant, society tends to make it feel like you hide, hide your sexy, and that you’re not sexy right now [but] you’ll get back there and I don’t believe in that sh*t.”
While Rihanna hasn’t revealed either the sex of the baby or her due date, she has hinted at both. Hinting she and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, are likely having a girl, Rihanna’s first reveal outfit was centered by a pink vintage Chanel ski jacket.
More recently she was spotted doing some shopping in Awake NY hoodie (more details here) with Fenty senior vice president Jennifer Rosales and Sita Abellán in Target where she was seen picking up an $18 pink baby dress from the store’s Cat & Jack brand.
Not long after, she was spotted in an an Alexander Wang crystal pinstripe menswear shirt (additional details here) with bestie Melissa Forde in Couture Kids in Beverly Hills where she was photographed admiring a trench coat dress and rack of girls’ dress. Following the trip, Rihanna’s team was seen carrying five bags of merchandise.
Of course, Rihanna could still be having a boy, perhaps making clothing choices reflecting her own disinterest in following rules dictating pink is for girls and blue is for boys.
As to how far along she is, at a Fenty Beauty event in mid-March, she told Elle she’s in her third trimester, which begins around week 28 of pregnancy and lasts until the birth of the baby at around 40 weeks. Assuming she is seven-to-eight months pregnant, that puts her date of conception at either July or August 2021.
Providing feedback on the challenges of the final months of pregnancy, she added, “There’s a pregnancy glow. There’s also those days, girl. Especially in the third trimester where you wake up and you’re like, oh, do I have to get dressed? Makeup for sure helps you feel like a real person. I just focused a lot on moisturizing and on contouring. The face gets a little round and chubby. The nose starts to spread. Everything is a challenge, from getting dressed and how you’re going to do your makeup. But I like challenges.”
While Rihanna and Rocky have been friends for a very long time (Rocky opened for Rihanna’s “Diamonds World Tour” in 2013), it’s believed they began taking their relationship in a different direction in January 2020, not long after it was announced she had broken up with Hassan Jameel. The stylish duo grew even closer during summer 2020, when they went off the grid with a cross-country trip together. Rocky made it all official in a GQ cover story in which he declared Rihanna the love of his life and noted he’d be open to having children with her.
