Music creative Doja Cat took to Instagram Live last night (August 4, 2022) where she let fans know why she shaved her hair, a new look she first revealed on her feed in mid-July with a close-cut pixie cut. Sporting an even shorter buzz cut on the live, she explained, “I was never supposed to have hair, I like don’t like having hair, I never liked having hair.” About halfway through the live, Doja (real name Amala Dlamini) took her new look to another level by shaving her eyebrows despite protestations from her makeup artist in the comments.
In addition to not liking her hair, Doja added that managing wigs was particularly cumbersome when working out. She explained, “I remember feeling so fucking just so exhausted with working out. Like Whenever I went to train, I had a trainer at one point, I’d be wearing wigs and they’d be getting tacky, they’d retack because of the moisture. And they’d start sliding and pealing off of my head while I’m doing this incredibly strenuous thing. I couldn’t focus because I was more concerned with how I looked and how my hair was doing.”
Noting the difficulty of managing a multi-layered look, she added, “There were times I’d put on a beanie on top of my wig that’s on top of a wig cap that’s on top of braids.”
Doja added that having a buzz cut makes sense because she never sports her natural hair. She explained, “First of all, I don’t wear my hair out. I had two eras when my hair would be out. I would straighten it,” she said, adding, “What is the use of having hair if you’re not going to wear it out?”
