Negative push back on Ye‘s Yeezy Season 9 presentation in Paris yesterday (October 3, 2022) continues as Denim Tears designer and Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory pushes back on the music creative’s description of Virgil Abloh as his “best friend.”
Emory was responding to a post in which Ye wrote, “SPANK MY HAND WITH THE RULER(S) I’LL GO SIT IN THE “PRINCIPAL(S)” OFFICE CAN’T WE TALK ABOUT MORE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE HOW LATE THE SHOW WAS OR HOW BERNARD ARNAULT KILLED MY BEST FRIEND EVERYONE’S GOT A RIGHT TO AN OPINION RIGHT THERE’S MINE.”
Pushing back on his description, Emory took to Instagram where he wrote in part, “I gotta draw the line at you using Virgil’s death in your ye is the victim campaign in front your sycophant algorithm peanut gallery.
Emory went on to reveal that Ye wasn’t invited to Abloh’s private funeral, an event with close friends and family that took place prior to a memorial service in Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
Calling him out for criticizing Abloh to Yeezy employees, Emory wrote, “this time last year you said Virgil’s designs are a disgrace to the black community infront of all your employees at Yeezy,” adding, “don’t let me get into the things you said about v after his death.”
The Denim Tears designers also noted that Ye gave Abloh a hard time in group chats, even knowing he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Emory finished by responding to Ye’s critique of fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who had criticized the “white lives matter” t-shirt. He wrote, “KEEP @gabriellak_j NAME OUT YOUR MOUTH…Your not a victim your just an insecure narcissist that’s dying for validation from the fashion world.”
In an Instagram post, Ye dismissed Emory by claiming, “IN WAR THEY WILL SEND YOUR OWN PEOPLE AT YOU.”
Abloh first became acquainted with Ye in Chicago in 2009 and would eventually take on the role of creative director for Donda. They began to go their separate ways creatively when Abloh launched Off-White in 2013. While Abloh had little to say about Ye that wasn’t positive, over the past few years Ye has taken shots in interviews at his former protégé, in some instances claiming he only landed the role of creative director Louis Vuitton because he was easily controlled.
