Former ESPN columnist and NY Times bestselling author Kate Fagan has announced Hoop Muses: An Insider’s Guide to Pop Culture and the (Women’s) Game, a 256-page, illustrated history of women’s basketball and its intersection with pop culture.
Curated by Seimone Augustus and illustrated by Sophia Chang, Fagan has described the book as similar to author Shea Serrano‘s Basketball (and Other Things) but for the women’s game.
Describing the book in a recent interview with Awful Announcinng, Kagan explained, “We go back to [Jason] Naismith [the inventor of basketball] and then uncover all these stories of women who have played this game in every nook and cranny and every year since 1891 and many of them buried by history. Like the Native American teams of the 1900s, the Black barnstorming teams of the 1930s.”
Priced at $29, Hoop Muses is available to order now and will ship on March 7, 2023.
