Grammy-Award-winning music creative Cardi B has announced a September 8, 2023, release date for her upcoming single “Bongos” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
The feature is a coming out party for Megan who hasn’t released any new music since August of last year. In recovery mode after being assaulted by Tory Lanez, who was found guilty in December 2022, Megan (real name Megan Pete) told In-Style back in the spring, “Fans can expect new music when I’m in a better place. Right now, I’m focused on healing.”
The single is a follow up to Cardi (real name Belcalis Almánzar Cephus) and Megan’s 2020 hit single “WAP,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single provided Cardi with her fourth No. 1 single in the United States, further bolstering her status as the female rapper with the most number-one singles. “WAP” provided Megan with her second number-one single.
In a cover story for Vogue Mexico, Cardi didn’t say whether “Bongos” would be included on her sophomore album, but she said to expect it soon. “Right now, I’m working on the cover art and ideas for the next record because it’s definitely coming up. Everyone always tells me I should put the record out now. They did when I released ‘WAP’ and when I released ‘Up,’ but I always let them know I’m not going to wait long after all these singles. So stay tuned because it’s coming out very soon.”
