Leaked excerpts from a shelve Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) documentary have surfaced, and as always he had a lot to say. In the first half of the clip he expressed regret for providing Teyana Taylor, Nas and Pusha T with music, but he saved his most scathing critique for Cardi B, who he describes as a industry plant brought in to take Nicki Minaj down a notch.
In an exchange with his then manager Scooter Braun in the first clip, Ye stressed he no longer wants to be associated with GOOD Music, the music label he launched. The conversation took place in 2018, not long after he produced his own album Ye, along with projects for Teyana Taylor, Pusha T, Nas and Kid Cudi.
Sporting a pink dyed buzz cut while in the midst of a photo shoot, Ye stated it was a mistake to give the song “Wanna Love You” to Taylor and said the same about Pusha T’s entire Daytona album. Taking a parting shot at rap legend Nas, he described his flow on “Cops Shot the Kid” as “off beat.”
Ye summed up his thoughts about the music he produced for Taylor, Pusha T and Nas as the equivalent of “giving away” three My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy albums.” He then added, “I’m the greatest mother f–king artist living and I can do everything…”
In a second clip, Ye is filmed in the midst of a phone conversation with an unknown person as he leafs through a book. In response to the caller, he described Kris Jenner‘s boyfriend, Corey Gamble, as a member of the CIA.
Making reference to a visit Cardi made to Jenner’s home in August 2018, Ye said, “That’s why f–king Cardi B was over there. Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati. She doesn’t write her raps. She’s just there to sound as ignorant as possible, and then make songs like fuck ’em and then get some money.”
Repeating a long held theory by Nicki’s most ardent fans, Ye added, “She has literally replaced Nicki Minaj purposely, that they put her there. And now she doesn’t know what to do and she’s just a f–king, she has no idea what the fuck is going on. She thinks it’s just a blessing from the universe. Ain’t no blessing from the fucking universe.”
Cardi appeared to responded to the dressing down on X, where she posted and subsequently deleted a 2022 interview Ye did with Jason Lee in which Ye said, “I always believed in her since she was on the show, period,” a reference to the early days of her career when she was a cast member on “Love & Hip Hop NY.”
Further supporting Cardi’s claim, Ye worked with her on “Hot Sh-t,” a song also featuring Lil Durk that was released in July 2022.
When Cardi announced the song in July 2022, Minaj expressed her displeasure with the news during a performance at Essence Festvial. While performing “Monster,” she cut the song short and seemingly called out Ye, stating “I’m ‘Monster’-ed out, and we don’t f–k with clowns.” Subsequently, Ye unfollowed Minaj on Instagram.
