Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons leans into early aughts nostalgia with the relaunch of its BP puffer jacket. Updated in a in a spectrum of colors (glossy red, onyx sand and olive), the jackets come with a detachable faux-fur hood, bold zippers and the brand’s signature cat logo on the back.
Lee Simmons relaunched the brand she founded in 2019 after buying back ownership of intellectual property from Sun Capital Partners. Since then, the brand has collaborated with Macy’s, Forever 21 and Puma.
While it’s of course fun to see Baby Phat celebrate pieces from it’s iconic past, it would be great to see it build on its unique identity at the intersection of women’s fashion and streetwear. As a woman-owned brand, it can claim a level of authencity with its target customer that most brands would envy.
