New York-based Luar‘s fall 2024 presentation, titled “Deceptionista,” served as an exploration into the life of creative director Raul Lopez, a queer man navigating the intricate web of societal expectations. Blending autobiographical elements with a keen critique of cultural influences, the assortment skillfully blurred the boundaries between identity and fashion, all against the backdrop of evolving perceptions of masculinity in contemporary society.
The runway showcased Luar’s distinctive boulder shoulder padded looks, spanning a spectrum of tops, dresses, and outerwear. The pieces were not only a display of fashion but also a statement, as adorned with Breda watches that added a touch of glamour. Notably, this presentation marked the debut of Luar Basics, a permanent collection priced below $500. This new line aspires to seamlessly connect runway elegance with the practicality of everyday wear.
One of the show’s many highlights included the exquisite nail designs of New York-based nail artist Naomi Yasuda, which added an extra layer of visual allure to an already mesmerizing display of fashion and identity at the label’s New York Fashion Week presentation.
The Luar show, renowned for attracting New York City’s downtown cool creatives, reached new heights of notoriety as global icons Beyoncé and Tina Knowles graced the event. Their attendance was in support of their nephew Julez Smith, who made his runway debut. The presence of his mother, Solange Knowles, added an extra layer of familial encouragement to the show.
