Sierra Leon-born Ib Kamara and Off-White have taken a leap into the future of the brand, transitioning from his role as art and image director to the brand’s fully-fledged creative director.
Commenting on the fall 2024 collection, titled “Black By Popular Demand,” Kamara told Vogue, “Off-White is the brand that is supposed to take risks and be inventive and have a new point of view all the time. I think I’m finding my point of view in Virgil’s universe, but there is me in there too.”
Anchored by Off-White founder Virgil Abloh‘s legacy of postmodern streetwear, the fall collection intertwined Kamara’s own artistic identity, honed through years of collaboration with Abloh. The runway show was an eclectic fusion of influences, ranging from an anorak-inspired silhouette and deconstructed pieces to a corseted shirt detailed with faux fur accents and intricate beading, with each piece telling a story of cultural amalgamation and individual expression.
Women’s offerings were themed on bold colors and innovative detailing, reflecting Kamara’s African roots as blended with American sportswear motifs. Meanwhile, menswear exuded a regal yet contemporary vibe, marrying brocade coats with monochrome tracksuits and West African-inspired beading.
The collection also included the reveal of “The Baller” sneaker, a boundary-pushing shoe made in collaboration with Wilson, inspired by the basketballs the brand is famous for making.
