Rapper and fashion creative A$AP Rocky and his creative collective, AWGE, made their fashion week debut with “American Sabotage”, a runway collection that seamlessly blended fashion, art, and music. The brand’s debut runway show took place at The Hôtel de Maisons during Paris Fashion Week Men‘s, leaving a lasting impression on the fashion community. Notably, the 35-year-old, father of two used the moment to debut a track from his long-awaited album, titled Don’t Be Dumb.
Inspired by what Rocky calls “ghetto expressionism” the collection, which was styled by Matthew Henson, consisted of 30 looks designed by Rocky with support from Joshua Jamal, Bede Marchand, and Coucou Bebe. The brand represents a glimpse into Rocky’s desire to push the boundaries of fashion and challenge conventional definitions across diverse communities and cultures. In an interview with Complex about, he explained, “It was well overdue. How many years was I advocating for everybody else’s brands, putting on new brands and showing people how to do new trends? Now I wanted to express myself. I gave everybody my ghetto expression.”
Tapping into his partnership, some of the footwear was provided by Puma, while the eyewear style came from Ray-Ban. Adding to the innovative atmosphere, clear garbage bags doubled as beanbag chairs from Rocky’s home furnishings brand, Hommemade, in collaboration with Crosby Studios.
In a press release Rocky added, “American Sabotage is more than just a brand, it’s a movement. We’re wrecking boundaries and making statements through every piece, reflecting the spirit and resilience of our communities. This is fashion with purpose, where art meets activism.”
