Brooklyn-born Laila! who’s been making waves under the moniker “Baby Genius,” has unveiled the music video for her viral summer anthem “Not My Problem.” The track is the lead single from her upcoming debut album, Gap Year!, set to release on September 6, 2024.
The visual, directed by actress, and first-time director Otmara Marrero, is a nostalgic trip back to the ’90s, infused with dream-like sequences that showcase Laila!’s femme-boss energy. The video takes viewers on a journey through a vibrant, imaginative world where Laila! effortlessly brushes off anything that doesn’t serve her—a theme that resonates deeply with the track’s lyrics.
In a recent press release, Laila! opened up about the origins of “Not My Problem,” sharing how the track came to life. “It all started as a freestyle. I made the beat first and just went with the flow,” she explained. “I played it for my sister, and she was like, ‘That’s hard.’ So, I began singing the hook, and it just clicked. The song has become more of a mantra for me—about letting go and not taking on things that really aren’t your problem.”
