Ohio-based Jeni’s Ice Cream is teaming up with Brooklyn-based artist Cj Hendry for “Opaque”, an all black ice cream and matching New York City pop-up that strips dessert of its usual color saturated environment and turns it into a full on sensory experiment.
Dropping on August 14,” Opaque” is jet black from scoop to cone, made with rich cocoa, creamy espresso fudge, and tart balsamic cherry jam dyed black with natural ingredients.
In press about the launch Hendry shares “We wanted to create an experience that pushes sensory boundaries,Removing color makes you feel everything else more deeply, the texture, the taste, the emotion. It’s quiet, it’s bold, it’s unlike any other ice cream shop you’ve ever stepped inside.”
To complete the concept, Hendry and Jeni’s are launching a three day pop up in New York City, August 15 to 17 at 390 W Broadway from 12 to 7 PM. The space will be completely monochrome with custom black Buttercrisp waffle cones, limited edition prints, collab merch, and seven new Hendry pieces including a massive work on display in the shop. Pints and scoops of Opaque will also drop in all Jeni’s shops and online August 14, with Hendry’s artwork going on sale August 17 at 7 pm.
