New York-based designer Sandy Liang has thrilled her fans with news of an upcoming Gap collection. Leaning into her whimsical yet still utilitarian approach, Liang’s 20-piece apparel collection is highlighted by a trench coat adorned with an oversized back bow. Dubbed “Sandy’s Dream Closet,” the collection also touches on Sandy Liang staples, like sherpa fleece, peter pan collars and pleating. In a shoutout to her newborn son, some items are offered in children’s sizing.
“Growing up, Gap was the pinnacle of fashion. It’s incredible that I get to co-create with such an iconic brand that I treasured so much as a child, yet is still so relevant today,” said Liang in a press release. “‘Sandy’s Dream Closet’ illustrates how wearing Gap made me feel growing up, as I imagined being an adult one day and who I could be. I wanted to take the pieces that meant something to me as a kid and reimagine them through my lens today, celebrating girlhood in all its forms, while honoring the iconic styles that make Gap so timeless,” she adds.
The collaboration is accompanied by an animated campaign by visual artist Annie Choi. Titled “Sandy’s Dream Closet,” the short captures Liang’s childhood and her dreams of having a career in fashion with the Gap partnership marking a dream come true.
