In response to blow back resulting from her controversial rap freestyle, YesJulz published a statement yesterday (January 31, 2019) on Twitter where she stated, “I feel I owe this to a number of people. I am sorry for my carelessness.” She also published the lyrics to her freestyle and provided an explanation for some of the song’s more controversial lyrics.
Julz wrote in part, “I understand that delivering this message in the form of a rap in a spur of the moment radio show was not the best decision on my part. I have a lot of growing and learning to do and I will use this as an opportunity to focusing on educating myself and doing the work. I love this culture and only want to give back to it what it’s given to me. I do not wish for my participation to be viewed as parasitic.”
Julz also provided the lyrics to her freestyle and attempted to clarify their meaning. “I do not agree with, nor participate in, the narrative of black on black crime. The ‘they’ I was referring to who ‘never give back’ & are murdering people, are the counterparts running the corporations and building who control and profit off the artists and artists in discussion.”

Music promoter YesJulz née Julieanna Goddard yesterday (January 25, 2019) conducted an interview with a Gucci-headband-clad Soulja Boy on her 1AM Radio program. Soulja Boy discussed his multiple projects and plans for an album.
The show included visits by guests who dropped freestyles as part of a contest. While not included in the official video of the interview, at some point during the exchange Julz dropped her own freestyle.
Among other topics, Julz’s lyrics were critical of those who accuse her of being a culture vulture but don’t do anything to help black people. Reading from her phone, Julz spit, “Because my ass is fat and my skin ain’t black, I’m a vulture catcher they hunting. Yet they never do nothing and they never give back. They keep killing blacks.”
Twitter posts critical of the generalizations made in her lyrics included one by music personality Scottie Beam who responded with a tweet that read, “Yesjulz better hope I don’t ever see her. That’s that on that.”
In addition to the lyrics, Julz was also criticized for her halting flow. Julz acknowledged her skills were lacking in a Tweet that read, “I got the video of me freestyling for Soulja yesterday I’m not sure if I should post it or confiscate all evidence that it ever happened 😭”
