Female rappers Saweetie, Asian Doll, Rico Nasty, Cuban Doll, Kamaiyah, Bri Steves, Maliibu Miitch, Yung Miami, Melii, Bali Baby and Dreezy received well deserved shine in Paper magazine with a feature that included one-on-one interviews and a photoshoot. Artists Queen Key Coi Leray, Cupcakke and Molly Brazy were interviewed for the feature, but weren’t included in the photoshoot.
One of the most remarkable images from the shoot was a group shot that included all 11 of the aforementioned rappers. Fans were taken aback because several members of the group are known to be beefing with each other. Specifically, Rico, Bali, Cuban and Asian all have history that includes physical altercations and yet there they were, happily chilling within arm’s reach of each other.
When challenged about the friendly photo, both Asian and Bali on Instagram confirmed it was a product of Photoshop. Asian commented, “It’s photoshopped don’t play,” and Bali added, “& even if we was in the same room nobody would have wanted smoke so everyone stop allat cappin.”
Without getting into encyclopedic levels of detail, check out a summary of beefs between Cuban, Asian, Bali and Rico below. The good news is that all of the smoke between these rappers appears to have more or less dissipated. In comparison to the past two years, 2019 has been all about peace in the kingdom.
Asian versus Cuban: Once tight like sisters, things went south for these Dallas-born rappers when their respective fan bases expanded and Cuban began to grow out of her role as Asian’s biggest booster. Following verbal sparring online, Asian expressed sympathy for Cuban when she was beaten up by her now ex boyfriend Tadoe in May 2018. Sadly, the reconciliation didn’t last and in December 2018 they got into bizarre car chase and yelled things at each other from their respective windows.
Asian versus Bali: These two famously got into a World Star-esque physical altercation at SXSW in Austin in 2017. In a DJ Vlad interview, Asian said she had no choice but to beat down Bali because she was trash talking her within earshot. Bali told DJ Small Eyez the fight was inevitable and was more or less planned out in advance. During the interview, Bali added there was no way the beef could be squashed unless Asian kisses her toes.
Asian versus Rico: These two were close enough that they created a single called “Amigos,” which dropped in July 2017. Their relationship began to break down when Rico griped that Asian was biting her style. They both took shots at each other on social media and in January 2018 they crossed paths and fought. Both took to Instagram following the fight and claimed victory.
Bali versus Rico: These two were also once friends and made music together, however, things changed when Rico accused Bali of faking it for the internet and caring more about clout than making money. Bali clapped back by describing Rico as an untrustworthy snake.
